Sebata Yuzo Line 3.8 Meter (Limited Availability)
INCEPTION
Known as "Tani no Okina” (old man of the valley), a living legend of genryu (headwater) Tenkara fishing, Yuzo Sebata is probably the most well-known Tenkara master of Japan.
When he was in his early 20s, he was introduced to the "Nikko Fishing Tenkara” method in the beautiful mountainous region of Nikko Japan. This method was practiced in relative obscurity by a limited number of mountain folk and passed on through generations. As Yuzo Sebata describes it, he was told he would never be able to quit Tenkara “if you catch 5 trout with Tenkara fishing”. Well, that day came and Sebata-san adopted Tenkara, merging it with his passion for climbing, hiking, and high octane adventure seeking. Tenkara’s simplicity became a philosophical, and yet, practical conduit for his desire to connect and experience nature.
SEBATA LINE
Through his adventures, Sebata-san refined and perfected his own Tenkara line - a long furled taper line called “Sebata Line”. The characteristic of a Sebata line is its excellent weight distribution and flexibility. The line is furled with 4 to 6 supple nylon lines, and it has good weight for casting. It works very well with 6:4 or 7:3 tenkara rods. .
HANDMADE ARTISTRY
Sebata lines are unique, one-of-a-kind, handmade lines. Originally made by Yuzo Sebata, these lines are now made by Yuzo Sebata’s close friend, Mr. Isimori. In fact, Mr. Isimori is the only craftsman in all of Japan authorized by Yuzo Sebata to produce commercial Sebata lines. When you buy one of these lines, you certainly have a story to tell!
SPECS & USAGE TIPS
Length of line is 3.8 meters / 12.5 ft.
Line color is yellow.
To make your Sebata line more supple and easier to handle, put the line in water for 2-3 minutes prior to use.
If you accidently hook your fly or line to a tree branch, etc., break the tippet by grabbing and pulling on the furled line. If the line develops kinks, do a few strong false casts to help straigten out the line.
