Nissin Zerosum 360 (7:3) - 12 ft.

$259.95

Made in Japan.

Tenkara at its Finest.

Nissin brings out its best with this rod, offering exceptional quality and performance. In our view, the Nissin Zerosum 360 builds off of the extremely good Royal Stage, with better tech, weight, and balance.

Medium Action & Handling

The Zerosum 7:3 casts beautifully. Casting with this rod is precise and accurate. The 7:3 action pairs perfectly with a 3.5 level line, allowing for deadly placement of dry flies and light kebari flies. Experienced anglers can dial in a 3.0 line. Furled lines and floating lines, like the Daiwa PVC, cast wonderfully and are great options for longer reach and windy days.

The 7:3 action is a medium action. It has a CCS penny rating of 17.5 pennies and an RFI of 4.86. These numbers are virtually identical to the Royal Stage 7:3 and indeed the action feels very similar. There are differences, however. The Zerosum is better balanced and lighter (2.38 vs 2.66 ounces, due in part to a smaller handle). The overall result is slightly more precision, more control, and less fatigue.

With the 7:3 action, anglers get performance with weighted kebari and nymphs and, of course, dry droppers.

Quality, Tech, and Aesthetics

Nissin touts the Zerosum as having no compromises when it comes to the quality of the components used in the rod. This includes the cork, which Nissin claims is of the highest quality. Nissin also touts the use of 4-axis carbon in the butt section of the rod which resists twisting and absorbs shock.

The Zerosum 360 has an elegant and rich look to it. The cork gives way to dark, dimensional patterned carbon with gold highlights and gold lettering for the name. The upper section then transitions from a rich, dark ruby red to a more vibrant red at the top. The overall impression is luxurious yet within the Nissin tradition.

Final Thoughts

The Zerosum 360 7:3 delivers top shelf Tenkara performance with excellent quality, accuracy, weight, and balance. It’s pretty much everything you could ask for.
